Sandals Club Level vs Butler Level: Which Upgrade Is Actually Worth It?
If you've started pricing out a Sandals trip, you've probably already noticed there are three tiers of rooms — Luxury, Club Level (Club Sandals), and Butler Elite — and the price jumps at each step are not small. Having visited every Sandals Resort and have stayed in every room category: this is my honest guide to Sandals Butler vs Club Level rooms, what you actually get with each, and which one fits which kind of traveler.
The short version? Both are real upgrades over a standard Luxury room. But only one of them is worth the price jump for most couples — and it might not be the one you're expecting.

Quick Answer: Butler vs Club Level
Club Level is the sweet spot for most couples. (It definitely has been for us!) You get the upgraded room, the 24/7 Club Sandals Lounge, premium liquors in your room, a concierge team that can book your dinners and tours, and room service from 7 AM to 10 PM — usually for a few hundred dollars more per couple, not thousands.
Butler Elite is the splurge tier. You get a dedicated team of 2–3 butlers, beach and pool chairs reserved for you every morning, in-suite check-in, 24-hour room service, unpacking and packing, and food and drink brought to you literally anywhere on property. It's incredible — but it's only worth it if you genuinely want to be taken care of at that level.

What You Actually Get with
I’ve only stayed in butler level rooms a handful of times, but it’s definitely been enough to tell a difference — your butlers are trained and certified by the Guild of Professional English Butlers, the same program that trains butlers for royalty. You're assigned a team of 2–3 butlers who rotate so someone is always on duty.
Here's a short list your butler team will actually do for you:
Plan your trip before you arrive (preferences, dining, surprises)
Private in-suite check-in — you bypass the lobby entirely
Reserve your beach and pool chairs every morning, in prime spots
Deliver food and drinks anywhere on property — beach, pool, suite
Unpack your luggage on arrival and pack it on departure
Iron clothes, shine shoes, handle laundry
Stock your in-suite bar to your specific preferences
Make all restaurant, spa, and excursion reservations
Escort you to dinner (golf cart at the bigger resorts)
Arrange private in-suite, in-patio, or beach dinners
Hand you a cell phone so you can reach them anytime
24-hour room service from an expanded butler menu
Honest take: In my honest opinion, the single best thing about butler service is the chair reservations. IThe peace of mind of knowing two perfect loungers are waiting for you — without setting a 6:30 AM alarm to sprint a towel down to the beach — is such a great addition to the trip. You sleep in. You drink your coffee slowly. You stroll down whenever you feel like it. That alone sells the experience.
The catch? All the other perks are only worth it if you really want to be taken care of at that level. If you don't want a butler escorting you to dinner, bringing you drinks, and unpacking your clothes, you're paying for service you won't fully use.

What You Actually Get with
Club Level is the middle tier, and in my opinion it's where the value sits. Instead of a dedicated butler, you get a Club Sandals Concierge team that serves all Club guests collectively — they can still handle most of the planning, just not the white-glove personal stuff.
What's included with Club Level:
Private check-in at the Club Sandals Lounge (skip the main lobby line)
24/7 access to the Club Sandals Lounge with continental breakfast, snacks, board games, AC, and that incredible freshly-ground Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee
Concierge team to book dinners, tours, spa appointments, and private cabanas
Fully stocked in-room bar with premium liquors, sparkling wine, and Robert Mondavi wine
Room service from 7 AM – 10 PM
Upgraded room category (usually with better location or view)
Bathrobes and elevated in-room amenities
What you don't get: a personal butler, chair reservations, unpacking, in-suite check-in, or 24-hour room service.
For my wife and me, Club Level is the sweet spot. The concierge team can still reserve our dinners and tours. I personally don't mind walking up to the pool bar to grab my own drinks — it's part of the vibe. And when we do want to stay in bed and order eggs benedict, room service is right there until 10 PM. We get the elevated experience without the butler tier price tag.
Which Sandals Room Types Come with Butler vs Club Level?
Every Sandals resort has its own room naming conventions, but the is consistent across the brand:
Butler Elite room categories typically include:
Rondoval Suites
Over-the-Water Bungalows and Villas
SkyPool Suites
Millionaire Suites and Bluff Top Suites
Romeo & Juliet Suites
Swim-up Butler Suites
Presidential and Prime Minister Suites
Club Sandals (Club Level) room categories typically include:
Honeymoon Club Level rooms
Crystal Lagoon Club Level Suites
Beachfront Club Level rooms
Swim-up Club Level Suites
Important to know: exist in both Club Level and Butler tiers. They're my favorite type of room at any Sandals — you literally walk out of your patio into a shared pool. If you watch pricing, you can sometimes snag a Club Level swim-up at a fraction of what the Butler swim-up costs, and you get 90% of the same experience. That's the move I tell most of my clients.
Who Each Upgrade Is Best For
Choose if you…
Are celebrating something big (honeymoon, anniversary, milestone birthday)
Want to be personally taken care of — that's the whole point
Care deeply about prime beach/pool chair access without setting alarms
Plan to spend a lot of time in your suite or having private dinners
Don't want to think about a single logistic for the entire trip
Skip Butler if: you're independent travelers who'd rather grab your own drinks, find your own chairs, and not have a stranger unpacking your bag. You'll pay a premium for service you won't fully use.
Choose if you…
Want the upgraded room, premium drinks, and concierge access without the Butler price jump
Are happy walking to the bar for a drink
Still want room service available most of the day
Want a quiet lounge to escape to in the afternoon
Are booking a swim-up suite and want the best value
Skip Club Level if: you're truly on a budget and a Luxury-tier room will do the job, or you want the full butler-tier experience and would feel like you're missing out at Club. There's no in-between regret quite like that.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
It depends entirely on your travel style. If you want hands-off, white-glove luxury — yes, it's worth it. If you're independent and just want a nicer room and a lounge, Club Level gives you 80% of the experience for a much smaller price jump. I cover this in more detail in .
-
No. Butler service is exclusive to Butler Elite room categories. Club guests get a shared Club Sandals Concierge team, not a dedicated personal butler. However, Butler guests do get full Club Lounge access — it's a one-way upgrade.
-
Sandals is officially a no-tipping resort, but butlers are the one exception many guests choose to tip given the personal nature of the service. There's no required amount — most couples tip at their discretion at the end of the stay.
-
Sandals Royal Plantation in Jamaica is the brand's only all-Butler, all-suite resort. Every other Sandals property offers a mix of Luxury, Club, and Butler categories.
-
Sometimes — it depends on suite availability. The cleanest path is to book the tier you actually want from the start, since mid-stay upgrades aren't guaranteed and pricing isn't pro-rated favorably.
-
No — and this is a great budget tip. Swim-up suites exist in both Club Level and Butler tiers. You can frequently book a Club Level swim-up for significantly less than a Butler swim-up while getting nearly the same in-suite experience. For more budget strategy, see .
The Verdict
For the majority of couples I work with — and for my wife and me personally — Club Level is the right answer. You get the lounge, the upgraded room, premium liquors, room service most of the day, and a concierge team that can still take a lot of the work off your plate. The price jump from Luxury is usually reasonable, and a Club Level swim-up suite is one of the best values in the entire Sandals portfolio. While I really enjoy having chairs reserved out on the beach, I’m an early riser and can usually grab the chairs myself.
Butler Elite is the right call when you're genuinely splurging — a honeymoon, a 40th birthday, an anniversary, or any trip where you want to be pampered top to bottom. The chair reservations alone change how restful the vacation feels. Just go in knowing you're paying for the full white-glove experience, not just a nicer room.
Either way, you'll be eating well, drinking well, and sleeping with the ocean a few steps away — which is the real point of all of this anyway.
