Sandals Royal Bahamian Review (2026): An Honest Look After Our Stay
If you're researching Sandals Royal Bahamian for a trip in 2026, you're in the right spot. My wife and I spent a week here, and I've now booked dozens of clients into this property since. This review covers what the resort is honestly like — the rooms, the dining, Sandals Barefoot Cay (the private island), pricing, and who I think it's the right fit for.

Quick Answer: Is Sandals Royal Bahamian Worth It in 2026?
Yes — especially if it's your first Sandals or you want a short flight from the East Coast or Midwest. is an adults-only, all-inclusive resort just 15 minutes from Nassau's airport, with 12 restaurants, 2 food trucks, 8 bars, 7 pools, and access to a private offshore island. The trade-off: the on-property beach is smaller than what you'll find at Sandals South Coast or Emerald Bay. But Barefoot Cay more than makes up for it.
Sandals Royal Bahamian at a Glance
Location: Nassau, Bahamas (15 min from Lynden Pindling International Airport)
Vibe: Romantic, refined, slightly more upscale than the average Sandals
Restaurants: 12 (up from 10 — they added capacity in late 2024) + 2 food trucks
Bars: 8, including 3 swim-up bars and a British pub
Pools: 7 freshwater pools, 5 whirlpools, plus the Crystal Lagoon Pool
Unique perk: Sandals Barefoot Cay — a private offshore island (only Sandals Royal Bahamian and Sandals Royal Caribbean have one)
2026 Update: New Delta non-stop from Minneapolis (MSP) running Saturdays Dec 20, 2025 – Apr 12, 2026
All-inclusive includes: premium liquors, in-room minibars, scuba for certified divers, pickleball, water sports, airport transfers, Wi-Fi, taxes, and tips
My Experience at Sandals Royal Bahamian
Going in, I was worried this was going to feel like a "city resort." Nassau is busy, and I tend to gravitate toward the more secluded Sandals like South Coast. But the moment we cleared the gates, that worry disappeared. The property feels insulated. It's polished, quiet in the right places, and lively where you want it to be.
We stayed in an East Bay Honeymoon Oceanview Club Level Room, which I'd recommend to almost anyone visiting for the first time. Big balcony, real ocean view, walking distance to everything.
A Quick Story From Queen's Pearl
On our second night, we wandered into The Cricketers Pub-style spot at Queen's Pearl just to grab a nightcap before bed. The bartender asked what we'd had so far that week and what flavors we like. I mentioned I'm a sucker for anything with rum and ginger. Five minutes later he handed me something he'd never made before — a riff on a Dark and Stormy with a splash of guava. By night four, he had it ready before I sat down. That's the Sandals service difference, and you only really get it when you experience it.
Location and Arrival Experience: Just 15 Minutes from the Airport
Sandals Royal Bahamian sits 15 minutes from Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS), and that's a real advantage. Compare that to Sandals South Coast or Sandals Negril, where transfers can run 60–90 minutes. After a 6 a.m. flight, you'll appreciate the short ride.
Round-trip transfers are included. Guests in Club Level and Butler Level rooms get — and select top-tier suites get a Rolls-Royce or Mercedes. (Worth it? Honestly, for a 15-minute drive, the perk is more about the vibe than the time saved.)
Tip: If you're flying in from Minneapolis, Delta added a new non-stop to Nassau for the 2025–26 season (Saturdays only, December through April). That's a huge unlock for Midwest travelers.
Accommodation Options at Sandals Royal Bahamian
Rooms here are spread across three distinct areas, and where you stay matters a lot more than at most Sandals resorts.
East Bay Building (My Pick for First-Timers)
The East Bay Building sits next to what I think is the prettier of the two main pools — quieter, more elegant, with its own swim-up bar. Rooms here include the East Bay Honeymoon Oceanview Club Level Room, which is what we stayed in, and the East Bay Beachfront Swim-up Butler Suite — one of the most-requested categories on property.
West Bay Building (For Lively Travelers)
West Bay is closer to the active pool, the beach, and the water sports center. If you're traveling with a group of friends or you want pool volleyball and music going all day, this is your spot. The West Bay Honeymoon Hideaway Swim-up Crystal Lagoon Zen Butler Suite backs onto the Crystal Lagoon Pool — one of the prettiest spots on property.
Island Village (For a Private Pool Escape)
Island Village is tucked at the back of the resort and feels like its own world. Garden views, Tranquility Soaking Tubs on the patios, and the option of private plunge pools. If you've stayed at Sandals before and want to upgrade the experience, this is where I'd send you. Look at the Island Village Walkout Butler Hideaway Villa Suite w/ Private Pool.
My honest advice: First-time Sandals guests should book Club Level in East Bay. Returning Sandals fans should splurge on a Butler Suite in Island Village. We always tell clients Club Level is the sweet spot for value, and Butler Service is worth the upgrade when you want truly hands-off planning.

What's Included at Sandals Royal Bahamian?
This is what sold us on Sandals in the first place. "All-inclusive" actually means all-inclusive here — no nickel-and-diming.

NEW: $250 Dine Out Credit at select Nassau restaurants for 7-night stays in select Butler Suites — a Royal-Bahamian-exclusive perk added in 2025
Dining: 12 Restaurants and 2 Food Trucks
Honestly? Sandals Royal Bahamian was the best dining experience I've had at any Sandals resort, and I've been to a lot of them. The variety here is unmatched. Sandals quietly added two new restaurants in late 2024, bringing the count from 10 to 12.
A Quick Note on Dress Code
Resort Casual: Shorts/jeans, t-shirts/polos, swimwear must be covered.
Resort Evening: Dress pants or jeans for men, long or short sleeve dress shirts. No shorts, t-shirts, sneakers, or flip-flops.
My Three Standouts
Gordon's Over-the-Water — You can't beat this view. The restaurant juts out over the ocean and at sunset it feels straight out of a movie.
Butch's Island Chop House — Most clients ask me if there's a Butch's at the Sandals they're considering. There's a reason for that — the steaks here are legitimately some of the best you'll find in the Caribbean.
Sweets N Tings Food Truck — The spiked coffee was a highlight. Royal Bahamian was the first Sandals I've seen that put a sweets/coffee food truck right by the pool. Genius.
A Quick Story About Kimonos
The teppanyaki chefs here put on a show — but ours took it to another level. I mentioned it was our anniversary, and instead of the usual onion volcano, he made a heart-shaped fried rice dish that he told us he only does for couples celebrating something. Then he sang. Loudly. Whole table joined in. Absolutely the kind of moment you remember years later.
Our standout favorites were:
Sweets N Tings - I love spiked coffee in the afternoon, and this resort actually placed them by the pools!
Butch’s Island Chop House - Most of my clients always ask if there’s a Butch’s at each resort. So many have come to love it.
Gordon’s on the Pier - You just can’t beat the view of this restaurant in the evening!

Bars
The bars at Royal Bahamian are everywhere — you're never more than a couple-minute walk from a drink. My favorite is the East Bay swim-up bar (always quieter, fastest service in my experience). My wife's favorite is the Queen's Pearl, the British pub. The drink menu rotates and the late-night vibe is fun.
East Bay Swim-Up Bar (10:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.)
West Bay Swim-Up Bar (10:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.)

Water Sports and Land Sports
Water sports are my favorite Sandals perk, hands down. Hobie Cat sailing is included, and on Royal Bahamian's calmer water it's the easiest place I've sailed at any Sandals.
A Quick Story About the Hobie Cat
My wife had never been on a sailboat before. I talked her into trying it with me, promising it was easy. Forty-five minutes later we were both still in the cat — except she was sailing, and I was just along for the ride. She caught on faster than I did. We've now done it at four different Sandals.
Water sports included:
Hobie Cat sailboats
Kayaks
Water trikes
Paddleboards
Snorkeling (gear and trips included)
PADI-certified scuba diving (2 free dives a day for certified divers)
Discover Scuba Diving (DSD) for beginners — extra cost
Glass-bottom boat tours
Land sports included:
Pickleball (4 courts, lit for night play — added to Royal Bahamian recently)
Tennis (1 court, lit)
Beach volleyball
Basketball
Croquet, shuffleboard, billiards, table tennis
Indoor games room
If pickleball is part of how you vacation now, — Royal Bahamian made the list.
Sandals Barefoot Cay: The Private Island
This is the headline feature, and it lives up to the hype. Sandals Barefoot Cay is a private offshore island — only Royal Bahamian and have one. (For more on those, .)
Quick facts:
~5-minute ferry ride on the Sandals "Love Runner"
Two beaches — one for relaxing, one with snorkeling reef
Aralia House for Caribbean seafood
A beach club with a swim-up bar, hammocks, and lagoon-style pool
Zen Garden Spa treatments through Red Lane (extra cost)
Last ferry typically leaves the island around 4:45 p.m.
We spent two full days on Barefoot Cay. I'm a beach-and-book guy, so this was paradise for me. Heads up: the island closes in the early evening, so it's a daytime experience only.
Pools
The resort has 7 pools and 5 whirlpools. The two main ones — outside the East Bay and West Bay buildings — couldn't be more different in feel.
East Bay Pool: Quieter, elegant, swim-up bar, great service. My pick.
West Bay Pool / Crystal Lagoon Pool: Lively, music, pool volleyball, social.
Island Village Pool: Tucked back in the villas, very quiet, more for adults wanting solitude.
Barefoot Cay Pool: Lagoon-style.
If you love a swim-up suite, — Royal Bahamian's swim-up suites in the West Bay Building are some of the best.
Weddings and Honeymoons at Sandals Royal Bahamian
The property has multiple wedding venues — from the gazebo in Island Village to beachfront ceremonies and on-island weddings on Barefoot Cay. Sandals offers a complimentary "Sweetheart" wedding package with stays of 7+ nights in Club or Butler categories.
What's NOT Included at Sandals Royal Bahamian?
Most things are covered, but here's where the wallet does come out:
Epix Photography — Photographers will catch you around the resort. Prints/digital files are sold separately.
The Resort Shop — Helpful for things you forgot, but pricey. (We paid $60 for two extra tubes of sunscreen one trip — pack it.)
Butler and driver tips — Tipping is otherwise not allowed at Sandals, but butlers and excursion/transfer drivers are the two exceptions.
Red Lane Spa treatments — Beautiful spa, separate cost. Pro tip: book your massage on day one before you've been in the sun.
Island Routes Excursions — These are the official Sandals partner for off-property tours. Popular Nassau options include the Blue Lagoon swim-with-dolphins trip, Atlantis day passes, and Exuma swimming pigs day trips.
Pros and Cons of Sandals Royal Bahamian
To help you weigh the options, here are some standout features and considerations to keep in mind:
Pros
Private Island Access: Sandals Barefoot Cay is genuinely a unique perk
Short flight + short transfer: 15 minutes from a major U.S. gateway
Diverse dining: 12 restaurants + 2 food trucks
Three room neighborhoods: Pick the vibe that fits you
The 2026 Dine Out Program: $250 credit for select Butler stays — almost no other Sandals offers this
Cons
Smaller on-property beach than Sandals South Coast, Emerald Bay, or Royal Caribbean
Limited shaded loungers during peak times
Barefoot Cay closes early (~4:45 p.m. last ferry)
Nassau is a busy hub: if you want remote-feeling, Sandals Emerald Bay is more secluded
I’d recommend it for anyone wanting to enjoy the Sandals experience. If you haven’t experienced the brand yet, it’s an easy way to do so, as the Bahamas location is a much shorter flight than many of their other locations.
Final Verdict: Is Sandals Royal Bahamian Worth It in 2026?
For first-time Sandals guests, couples flying from the East Coast or Midwest, and anyone who wants a private island day trip without leaving their resort — yes, hands down. Royal Bahamian is one of the most well-rounded properties in the brand.
If you want a giant on-property beach and total seclusion, I'd point you toward Sandals Emerald Bay or Sandals South Coast instead. But if dining variety, a short transfer, and Barefoot Cay sound like your dream trip, this resort delivers.
